SIGMA GD is a crucial project for Serena Energia. The GD in its name stands for distributed generation, a business model Serena was unfamiliar with until 2023. In essence, they primarily engaged in B2B businesses, while GD (DG) focused on B2C.

Consequently, they lacked a solution to manage GD clients, which prompted us to embark on this project. The project involved handling data of thousands of clients, with the primary criterion being to prioritize those who required more attention. I dedicated two years to this project.

EARLY DEVELOPMENT

Our challenge here was to create an entire solution for a very particular problem. There weren't a lot of client and billing management applications that could take into account the particularities of the energy market. We had just one known app to take inspiration from.

DEFINING GOALS

The solution had to be robust enough to handle thousands of clients, with expectations to grow to millions. We utilized a free and scalable UI Library and adapted it to our needs. The requirements were meticulously mapped, and the user flows created.

BUILDING AND REFINEMENT

Once we had our goals defined, we commenced the project using Mantine UI. We organized the deliveries into MVPs. The most crucial features were prioritized for development, allowing users to provide feedback and optimize their workflows.

HANDOFF

After two years, the app was capable of importing customers' bills through APIs, generating reports, and sending Serena's bills for payment. It was also capable of reacting to energy tariff changes and adapting to them. The result was a very complete application.

Serena Energia (formerly Omega Energia) is one of Brazil’s largest renewable energy companies, focused on wind, solar, and hydro power. Beyond Brazil, it has begun international expansion with a wind park in Texas, USA. Its strategy emphasizes sustainability, affordable access to renewable energy, and positive social impact.
